Our feedstock business is aligned with our focus on vertical integration, one of the core strategies at Indorama Ventures that differentiates us from other players in the industry.

We integrated backwards to produce the upstream materials for the production of PET and Polyester. The advantage of having an internal supply of raw materials is that we can maintain both their efficiency and cost philosophy.

Our Feedstock Facilities

Feedstock products encompass Paraxylene (PX), Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), Purified Isophthalic Acid (IPA), Naphthalene Dicarboxylate (NDC), Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) and Ethylene Oxide (EO) derivatives and by-products. A significant proportion of our feedstock requirements for our downstream PET and polyester production facilities are sourced internally.

Ethylene and Glycol Production Process

Ethylene Glycol (EG) is produced from ethylene, which can be produced from natural gas liquids or naptha from crude oil. The major end use is as a raw material in the production of polyester fibers, PET, antifreeze, films and chips.

Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) is made from the hydration of EO, and is mainly used to manufacture polyester fibers and PET resins. MEG is often used in applications that require a solution to have an extremely low freezing point such as automotive anti-freeze and coolants.

Diethylene Glycol (DEG) is a by-product made together with MEG through the processing of EO. DEG has broad applications and is used to manufacture polyester polyols, unsaturated polyester resins, morpholine production, paints and coatings, plasticizers, liquid laundry detergent, grinding cement and as an intermediate for polyethylene glycol.

Triethylene Glycol (TEG) is a by-product made together with MEG through the processing of EO. TEG’s main application is for natural gas dehydration. Other applications are for air sterilizers, resin for windshields and as an intermediate for polyethylene glycol.

Petrochemical Industry Value Chain

Paraxylene (PX) is a downstream derivative in the petrochemical chain. PX is the main raw material in the manufacture of PTA.

Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) is an organic compound produced from paraxylene (PX), which is a downstream derivative in the petrochemical chain. This colorless powder is a commodity chemical, used principally in the manufacture of PET and the Polyester Industry.

Purified Isophthalic Acid (IPA) can be used in the manufacture of PET resin as well as in paints and coatings. IPA is included in IVL’s HVA product portfolio. We are now the second largest IPA producer globally.

Naphthalene Dicarboxylate (NDC) is a chemical used in new-generation polyesters and resins to make items such as LCD flat panel displays and ultra-thin data storage tapes. NDC is also included in IVL’s HVA product portfolio. We are currently the largest NDC producer globally.
