Raising the awareness of waste sorting and recyclable waste management

Indorama Ventures collaborated with KU as part of its environmental objective to raise public awareness on proper waste sorting and recyclable waste management and also conducted a session on waste separation and PET recycling for the students in Sriracha.


PET Recycling Education and Waste Separation Activity for Students at Wat Pak Nam School in Rayong Province

IVL organized a PET recycling education and waste separation activity for students at Wat Pak Nam School in Rayong Province. We aim to encourage students to recognize the importance of waste separation for recycling and how this knowledge can be applied both at school and at home with their families. By sharing the knowledge to others, we hope to widely extend awareness and actions as IVL believes that recycling is a sustainable solution to decrease the use of natural resources and help the environment in the future.

IVL continuing the program for the second year to Raising Awareness and Understanding at Suntory Pepsico Beverage (THAILAND)

The IVL provided training on waste separation and PET recycling to staff at the Suntory Pepsico Beverage Head office in Thailand to raise awareness on the benefits of waste separation and the versatility of recycling PET to be used in various industries. Materials and products made from recycled PET drinking bottles were displayed and IVL also provided the “Let’s Recycle PET” education pack.

Indorama Ventures PCL, as member of the “Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for Sustainable Plastic and Waste Management” project, participated in the “Circular Economy Model Schools” workshop at Golden city Rayong with Less Plastic Thailand. More than 70 participants from 30 organizations and schools attended to learn about the circular economy concept for plastics with a workshop organized to demonstrate waste separation and ways to increase the value of waste. Participants exchanged ideas and opinions to extend the benefits of waste management, creating zero waste school models in the community and improving the circular economy concept in educational institutions, hoping to apply the same method to other areas. Indorama Ventures provided our recycling education set to all participants to be used for further benefits.

Indorama Ventures PCL provided recycling education sets to The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) as part of a train the trainer program for environmental education officers to better manage waste. The objective of this activity is to help OBEC officers become speakers in promoting understanding of waste management in their organization and Zero Waste School, increase their analyst skills. This includes raising awareness of the impact of waste, response to take care of the environment, create learning networks to expand waste management in schools, increase the effects of waste separation at schools for sustainability. At the training session, speakers from the government, private and civil society sectors were present, including the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Pollution Control Department, Chula Zero Waste, The Chamber of Commerce of Thailand, Thai Creation Association (Tawiset), Less Plastic, Institute of Environmental Packaging and Recycling Management, Koh Klang’s and Klong Toey Community and Wat Chak Daeng, Samut Prakan, with 40 participants from 19 government inspection districts at Riverside Hotel, Bang Phlat District, Bangkok.

Indorama Ventures in collaboration with IVL Foundation conducted an educational roadshow on waste separation and recycling at the Ban Non Kok Kha School and the Ban Sam Phrao School in Loei province. This educational roadshow aimed to increase awareness on the importance of waste separation and the effects of the current waste problems on our environment.

IVL Organizes PET Recycling Education and Waste Separation Activity for Students at Wat Sawang Arom in Nakhon Pathom Province

IVL organized a PET recycling education and waste separation activity for students at Wat Sawang Arom in Nakhon Pathom province, continuing the program for the second year. We aim to encourage students to recognize the importance of waste separation for recycling and how this knowledge can be applied both at school and at home with their families. By sharing the knowledge to others, we hope to widely extend awareness and actions as IVL believes that recycling is a sustainable solution to decrease the use of natural resources and help the environment in the future. We prioritize education and knowledge with the younger generation to help them understand about recycling PET and how to protect our environment from today onwards, implementing consciousness on this issue to the next generations as well.


HSBC Bank Thailand Joins IVL in the PET Bottles to PPE Suits Project, Raising Awareness of Recycling PET for PPE Suits to Aid Medical Staff

HSBC Bank Thailand and Indorama Ventures took part in the PET Bottles to PPE Suits project by collecting post-consumer PET bottles to be recycled into fibers and made into PPE suits. One suit is made of approximately 18 PET bottles and will be used by medical personnel to protect against Covid-19. To help staff gain knowledge and understanding on types of plastic, correct waste separation and PET recycling process following the circular economy model, HSBC Bank Thailand invited representatives from IVL to deliver a training program at their organization. Staff were also encouraged to collect their used PET bottles to be recycled at IVL’s recycling site. The program was successful with over 100 kgs of PET bottles gathered within one month and will continue on until the end of August 2020.


Science Caravan by the National Science Museum Organization Thailand (NSM)

IVL supported the National Science Museum Organization Thailand (NSM) under the Ministry of Science and Technology by supplying education packs on the topic of “Recycling PET” along with samples of materials and products recycled from PET drinking bottles such as shirts, bags, shoes. This activity aimed to educate children who participated in the 2020 "Science Caravan by NSM" project, with the duration of phase 1 from November 2019 – February 2020, collaborating with public and private local agencies such as educational institutions, provincial administrative organizations and department stores. Science Caravan by NSM was organized to expand opportunities for learning outside the classroom and encourage creative imagination through a variety of science activities. The organization inspires children in innovative technology that can be developed and used nationally in the future.


Raising Awareness and Understanding at the Spanish Embassy of Thailand

The IVL CSR team provided training on waste separation and PET recycling to staff at the Embassy of Spain in Thailand to raise awareness on the benefits of waste separation and the versatility of recycling PET to be used in various industries. Materials and products made from recycled PET drinking bottles were displayed and IVL also provided the “Let’s Recycle PET” education pack. The IVL Foundation also donated 1 set of bins to the embassy to encourage waste separation among employees.


The Faculty of Fisheries of Kasetsart University Understands Impact of Plastic Waste and the Need for a Solution

As part of their study in water resources, the Faculty of Fisheries at Kasetsart University aims to develop a systematic solution for waste problems in water sources. The faculty has cooperated with other organizations in the university and in local target areas, focusing on youth and students to allow understanding of the issue from a young age. Indorama Ventures is a manufacturer and recycler of PET, operating a closed loop system for PET in Thailand following the circular economy model. A representative from the company was invited to provide knowledge on waste separation and recycling process of PET.

To raise awareness on the value of recycling PET, the Faculty of Fisheries of Kasetsart University arranged an activity for personnel and professors from the faculty. Participants were able to bring 100 PET bottles, 500ml in size, and exchange them for shirts made from 100% recycled PET fibers from the brand DEJA™, with one shirt equivalent to approximately 12 PET bottles. The event was successful with 89 attendees, the faculty was able to collect over 100 kg of PET bottles which were handed over to Indorama Ventures to be recycled at their faculty in Nakhon Pathom.


Indorama Ventures joins hand with Plus Property to deliver recycling knowledge in residential and office building

IVL led by the CSR team recently delivered recycling knowledge to the Staffs, Building manager and Village manager of Plus Property Co., Ltd., an expert counsel in real estate services who recognize the importance of using resources in maximum benefits. IVL’s Recycling Education workshop provided them awareness and knowledge on the importance of waste sorting, values of different waste materials, and the practice of proper waste separation as well as apply to reuse PET bottles into various products. The objectives are to expanding recycling knowledge to residential and office building of Plus membership at over 200 sites nationwide. IVL and Plus Property believe that the knowledge and participation of everyone will make a positive change in the waste problems that affect to the environment currently.


Indorama Ventures Aids Office of Computer Services at Kasetsart University on Sustainability Efforts

The Office of Computer Services at Kasetsart University arranged their knowledge session for February on the subject of “Understanding and Preparing for a Green Office”. IVL was able to participate by providing information on waste management and explained the process of recycling PET. This is part of a Green Office policy to encourage employees to adapt sustainable habits as a reaction towards global environmental problems. The session was held on 26th February 2020 at 09:00-13:00 in the Office of Computer Services Building at Kasetsart University.


Indorama Ventures supports "Waste Entrapping Mechanism in Watercourses" at Kasetsart University

22 February 2020

Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Fisheries has initiated a program to create a “Waste Entrapping Mechanism in Watercourses” to raise awareness on waste separation and waste management. The meeting of Kasetsart University, Indorama Ventures, and the IVL Foundation took place on 15-16 February 2020 at the Sriracha Fisheries Research Station, Chonburi province for members to exchange ideas on this project. This mechanism aims to prevent waste from entering water sources. Students in the program had collected, separated and recorded information on waste found around the station’s beaches and ports with the kind cooperation of communities from Charin Port in the area.


"Be my Valentine, Let's Recycle PET" by Indorama Ventures

On the occasion of Valentine’s Day on 14th February 2020, IVL invited colleagues at the Head Office and from nearby areas to exchange their PET bottles for gifts. The conditions for this activity was 1 PET bottle for a heart candy, 10 PET bottles for a heart-shaped plant and 50 PET bottles for a recycled t-shirt.


Indorama Ventures Donates Plastics Compacter to the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce of Thailand CAP Initiative

On Wednesday 5th February 2020, the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce of Thailand launched the CAP (Care About Plastics) initiative at the residence of H.E the Ambassador of The Netherlands. As an industry leader, Indorama Ventures supported a plastics compacter towards this initiative and also participated in the launching event with an exhibition space on plastic recycling and products made from rPET.

Starting with the hotel industry, the CAP initiative aims to redirect the impact of plastic waste to create a cleaner environment and provide support for charity. Hotel staff will be trained on the importance of recycling and how to separate their hotel’s plastic waste, which will then be bought, collected and recycled appropriately. Profits from recycling will benefit the homeless Thai Children of Baan Nokkamin Foundation and a small amount of the funds will also be donated to the hotel staff for their separation efforts. Now with 11 participating hotels including Marriott, Kempinski, Centara and more, the Chamber aims to involve as many Bangkok hotels as possible and to make it a model which can be rolled out nationally in the future.


The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand Hosts Session on a Sustainable Lifestyle

IVL was invited to lecture at the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand on the topic of "A Sustainable Lifestyle and Applying the 3Rs in Daily Life" to 2nd year scholarship students from universities all over Thailand. Focusing on creating awareness, the session aimed to help students understand and adapt to the global situation by using resources efficiently through education on waste separation and recycling PET. IVL displayed the diverse products of recycled PET such as apparel, bags, and shoes which are made from recycled PET fiber, as well as food packaging like water bottle and food containers made from recycled PET pellets. The students were also shown examples of reusing, simply repeated use of the same object or to transform waste into crafts that can generate income for universities or communities in the future.


IVL Creates Environmental Awareness in Ranong Province

Indorama Ventures in collaboration with The Jan & Oscar Foundation conducted an educational roadshow on waste separation and recycling at Khao Niwet Municipal School, honored by Mr. Jirawach Charoennitiphokin, Mayor of Ranong Province, who gave the opening speech at this event. The Jan & Oscar foundation is a non-profit organization from Switzerland and was also one of the contributors in setting up a waste bank for the school.

Additionally, the team also travelled to educate children and locals in the Morgan community at Koh Payam and Koh Lhao, Koh Payam Child Development Center, and Koh Lhao Home School. This educational roadshow aimed to increase awareness on the importance of waste separation and the effects of the current waste problems on our environment. IVL hoped to demonstrate the importance of recycling and the value of waste material that can generate household income, leading to encouraging the communities to be active in sustainably preserving our environment.


IVL Promotes Waste Separation on National Children's Day 2020 at Buriram Province

Indorama Ventures was involved in the annual Children's Day event of 2020 in partnership with Buriram United Football Club at Chang International Circuit, Buriram Province, Thailand. At the event, many games were set up for children to enjoy, such as the waste separation game and PET bottle basketball into recycle bins, creating a fun atmosphere. At the same time, we aimed to encourage waste separation by putting their waste in the right bin and provide recycling knowledge through entertainment. IVL also gave out toys, stationary, snacks and different prizes during the event which was crowded with families from all areas of Buriram province who attended with young children throughout the day. We hope that everyone can apply the knowledge from the IVL team to apply in daily life and create a sustainable environment for the future.
