“From Waste to Art: Recycling Education classroom at Ban Nernpayom School Hua Hin”

Indorama Ventures together with IVL Foundation arranged recycling education at Bann Noenpayom school in Prachuap Khiri Khan. To conduct a knowledge-sharing session on "Waste Management and Types of Plastics" as well as "Crafts from Plastic" at Ban Nurnpayom Schools, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan. The workshop took place on November 9-10, 2023.

The objective of this workshop was to foster awareness regarding waste separation as an integral part of the global perspective on environmental issues. By teaching children to sort waste into recyclables, organic matter, and non-recyclables, they help to reduce the amount of waste taken to landfills and incinerators, hence lowering the number of hazardous substances discharged into the environment.

Following waste separation class, children were encouraged to express their creativity by making pouches and pencil cases out of plastic bottles. The students' joy was obvious as they proudly showed their works to friends and family, exhibiting their commitment to environmental stewardship and artistic expression.


Education for Sustainability: Leam Pak Bia Project's Waste Management Initiative in Thai Schools

Objectives:

  • Develop teaching manuals for teachers, focusing on waste separation and PET recycling, designed for adaption in secondary schools to enhance learning.
  • Prepare and determine effective methods for media outreach, together with using technology suitable for transferring knowledge and developing content tailored to the target audience.
  • Test the effectiveness of the teaching manuals in model schools, with a focus on improving their communication to ensure it is comprehensive, appropriate, and uses a range of tools that contribute to its success.
  • Create an expansion model by applying the results of knowledge transfer to other areas while measuring the success achieved in the model school.

Indorama Ventures supports the Leam Pak Bia project, which focuses on educating in waste management for schools in Thailand. This is in partnership with Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Environment to research and explore the potential for developing waste management practices in Thai schools and develop instruction manuals for teachers on how to manage waste and plastic at the secondary school level. The pilot project involved 22 schools, with the objective of selecting the best practices to be modeled in Thai schools. On this occasion, we shared knowledge about plastic and PET recycling processes, to help students learn and understand how to manage plastic post-consumption and how recycling PET can benefit the environment and support a circular economy.


Indorama Ventures continues partnership with BMA's Education Bureau for the second year.

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, led by Mrs. Suchitra Lohia, Deputy Group CEO, together with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), led by Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and the BMA's Education Bureau, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to continue the joint "Sustainable Plastic Waste Management" project for schools under the BMA for the second consecutive year. The partnership aims to build on the success from the project’s first year which provided training on sustainable waste management and PET recycling education to over 100 schools across Bangkok. Under the new agreement, the project will offer five new activities and expand its reach to encompass the remaining 337 BMA schools, aiming to educate 40,000 students by 2025.

The "Sustainable Plastic Waste Management" initiative is a key component of the broader strategy to address plastic waste and advocate for responsible waste management practices within the circular economy framework, particular in terms of PET bottles. It seeks to enhance awareness and knowledge among educators, teachers, students, and the public regarding various types of plastics and the importance of proper waste separation at its source. This collaborative effort aligns with Indorama Ventures' corporate social responsibility strategy to advance knowledge about waste management and PET recycling to create positive changes to the local communities and the environment, a commitment that has been consistently upheld since the launch of the Indorama Ventures Recycling Education program in 2018.


Indorama Ventures joins Silpakorn University in post-consumer PET bottle recycling drive

The CSR and Sustainability team from Indorama Ventures supported Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Technology, Silpakorn University by organizing a "Collected post-consumer PET Bottles" activity. This event focused on collecting post-consumer PET bottles for recycling and other environmentally-responsible purposes. Initiatives like these play a vital role in reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainability.

Forming part of the "Green Campus Kickstart: Step One to Sustainability" drive - one of the initiatives within the "Circular Economy" course - this event aims to raise awareness about environmental issues caused by waste, while promoting sorting practices in line with university waste management policies. It serves as an inspiration for students to contribute to the circular economy by sustainably utilizing existing resources.

The course instructor was highly impressed with Indorama Ventures and is considering further expansion of this activity to include the entire university in the future. During this event, 300 students contributed a total of 900 kilogrammes of PET bottles. This quantity of PET bottles was sent to our recycling facility in Nakorn Pathom for recycling.


CSR Team Showcases Recycling Education at the Environmental and Waste Management - EnWaste Expo 2023

The CSR team played an integral role in promoting awareness and facilitating knowledge exchange at the EnWaste Expo 2023. The event, held at Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi, attracted a diverse group of individuals keen on sustainable practices, especially in recycling PET bottles. Engaging with over 300 participants, our team delivered informative sessions complemented by interactive waste separation games. The expo, held from 4-6 October, was open daily from 09:00 to 18:00. In addition to our contribution, the event saw the participation of various government bodies and key industry stakeholders in waste management, making it a comprehensive and collaborative effort in support of environmental sustainability.


Sustain Expo 2023

Indorama Ventures proudly sponsored and participated in the Sustainability Expo 2023 (SX2023), ASEAN's premier sustainability event, providing a platform for the company to exhibit its commitment to sustainability and showcase its pioneering advancements in recycling, aptly themed “The Future of Recycling.” The event took place from 2-8 October at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.

Additionally, the CSR team hosted a specialized recycling education workshop for children at the SX Kids Zone, instilling a sense of environmental responsibility and sharing knowledge about effective waste management to the younger generation, underlining IVL’s dedication to encouraging environmental awareness from an early age.


IVL and Makro support mushroom farming in three schools

This joint project by IVL and Makro was designed to enhance food security through sustainable practices, specifically by cultivating mushrooms. Successfully established in three schools, the project benefits over 500 students across two schools in Bangkok and one in Nakhon Pathom. The mushroom farms not only provide a nutritious food source for students and teachers but also serve as practical learning sites.

In addition to supporting sustainable agriculture, the CSR team took an active role in providing environmental education. This initiative extends learning beyond traditional classroom settings, focusing on environmental stewardship and the recycling of PET bottles. Starting from kindergarten children to youth, this project nurtures a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness, shaping them into responsible adults of the future.


Indorama Ventures Leads a Knowledge Session on “Plastic and the Circular Economy” for Kasetsart University Students

The Faculty of Environment at Kasetsart University, in its ongoing effort to promote environmental awareness, hosted a training session on 22 September. The session aimed to heighten awareness about waste separation and promote a culture of recycling among students. IVL’s CSR team led an insightful session on “Recycling PET and Plastic Waste,” while the Sustainability team delivered a presentation on “Plastics and the Circular Economy.” Marking the fourth collaboration with Kasetsart University, this event successfully engaged 100 students, demonstrating a growing interest in sustainable practices.


Safety Week in Lopburi

During Safety Week, our CSR team actively contributed by sharing expertise on environmental topics. We conducted sessions specifically designed to educate interested employees about waste separation and promoting PET recycling, with over 30 employees from four Lopburi factories participating.

In addition to the educational sessions, the local CSR team set up an interactive booth featuring various games and activities. These were aimed at educating employees about waste management and the different types of plastics, with the goal of advancing a comprehensive understanding of these issues within our organization. This initiative not only serves as a commendable example for society but also provides valuable insights that employees can share with their families. The Safety Week activities, organized by the ESH team across the Lopburi factories, spanned three days, focusing on environmental awareness, safety, and employee health, and successfully attracted the participation of 300 individuals from all four factories, highlighting its broad appeal.


IVL conducts training session for Bangkok Bank, helps establish the Bualuang Green Team

A total of 31 participants joined this valuable session. Demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship, Bangkok Bank is actively working towards becoming an eco-friendly company. To support this initiative, they have launched internal educational and communication campaigns, emphasizing recycling trends and waste segregation within their office premises. Our training program attracted considerable attention from the bank’s employees and received encouraging feedback, reflecting its positive impact and relevance.


CSR team holds their second annual recycling education program at Pravorsarn School

This initiative engaged 250 secondary students (M.1-M.3) and six teachers in a series of activities designed to enhance environmental awareness. Recognizing the crucial role of education in fostering responsible environmental behaviors, the school collaborated with IVL to provide comprehensive knowledge and insights on environmental conservation. The program's primary goal was to instill sustainable practices and emphasize the significance of recycling PET bottles among students. Additionally, the active participation of the Lopburi Factory’s CSR team not only demonstrated their dedication to environmental stewardship but also reinforced their commitment to the local community’s well-being, further strengthening the bond with residents in the surrounding areas.


Improving recycling knowledge for BMA’s officers in Phaya Thai and Vahana districts

To enhance understanding of plastic waste management, Indorama Ventures organized a training session on plastics and PET recycling for local officers from the Phaya Thai and Vaharna districts. The workshop demonstrated proper post-consumption PET handling and sorting while illustrating the recycling process. By showing how reprocessing bottles into new materials supports sustainability and a circular economy in Thailand, the event aimed to build the BMA personnel’s practical knowledge on redirecting plastic from landfills. Equipping local staff with recycling insights enables them to better guide communities on responsible waste diversion. This initiative provided accurate perspectives on giving used PET a second life instead of disposal, working towards nationwide recycling awareness.


Indorama Ventures hosted the Indorama Ventures PET SEEDINGS Project in Chiang Rai.

The PET SEEDINGS Project kicked off at Ban Wiang Doem School and Huai Sak Wittayakhom School in Chiang Rai, Thailand, with 200 students in attendance with the aim of creating awareness regarding the environment, ecosystems, and global warming by instilling a culture of environmental responsibility and educating young people on plastics and PET recycling, as well as the importance of conservation of aquatic animals, and knowledge of illegal fishing gear according to the Royal Ordinance on Fisheries B.E. 2558 by the Department of Fisheries.

Our approach enhanced knowledge among a wide range of individuals. By reaching younger children, youth, and entire communities, Indorama Ventures equipped diverse target groups with waste redirection skills across demographics.

Following our participation in the BMA project, the first target group, elementary schools, continued with the initiative. The second target group was a large high school that had successfully implemented the Zero Waste and Waste Bank project on their premises. In this instance, the teaching inspired and raised awareness among the participating students about waste bank management in addition to sustainably expanding the project's impact.

The final target group, the communities in Bangkok, specifically the “Ban Khrua Tai” community, reached out to us through the Trash Lucky team to collaborate on providing accurate knowledge and understanding of household waste management, which serves as the foundation for waste separation. If the community gains proper knowledge and understanding, it can simplify waste management in the nation’s capital and contribute to recycling at the household level.


Recycling Education Continues at Ban Nong Kwang School in Ratchaburi Province

Capitalizing on the momentum of the waste bank initiative launched in the prior year, the school has been utilizing the knowledge gained to further instruct both students and teachers on effective waste bank management within their educational setting.


CSR team promotes Recycling Education for Head Office staff

The CSR team organized Recycling Education for head office staff to inform IVL employees about the significance of the recycling education program to the company. It educates staff on how to properly separate and dispose of waste, PET facts, the PET recycling process, Thailand's plastic roadmap, and how recycling PET can benefit the world. The goal was to empower everyone to contribute to protecting our planet. We hope our employees will share this message with their family and friends, begin separating waste, and use recycling bins for PET bottles. This effort supports IVL’s goal of educating one million people worldwide by 2030.


Indorama Ventures sharing recycling education expertise with Thai Royal Projects Development Board

Indorama Ventures conducted recycling training for personnel of the Thai Royal Projects Development Board. The aim of the training was to educate employees on proper waste separation to reduce waste and help preserve the environment. The CSR team gave a lecture on the principles of waste management and waste reduction, including the 3R principles (reuse, reduce, and recycle), as well as an overview of the PET processes. The training provided employees with a better understanding of the difference between sufficiency economy and circular economy and how to promote sustainable practices within their organization.

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited and Buriram United Football Club recently launched "How to Throw Away" waste management project by training 770 teachers and children from 5 schools in Buriram province on proper plastic waste separation and management, types of plastic, and PET recycling process. The objective is to create awareness of post- consumer PET’s value. Participating schools comprise of Prakhonchai Pittayakhom School - Prakhonchai District, Stick School - Satuek District, Thantong Pittiyakhom School - Lamplaimat District, Lamduan Pittayakom School - Kasang District and Bualuang Wittayakom School - Mueang Buriram District. Indorama Ventures takes the lead in promoting recycling awareness

Indorama Ventures and BMA's Department of Education announce successful "Sustainable Plastic Waste Management" project

Indorama Ventures PCL., together with the Department of Education under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), organized the closing ceremony of the "Sustainable Plastic Waste Management" project for schools under the BMA. Over the past 8 months since its launch, the project has provided training on sustainable plastic waste management and recycling to more than 100 BMA schools, reaching 11,593 teachers and students. The event was attended by Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, and Mrs. Aradhana Lohia Sharma, Vice President, Indorama Ventures PCL., who awarded certificates to 87 schools in recognition of their best practices and practical application of Indorama Ventures’ training on plastic waste management and recycling. Certificates were awarded to 20 schools that reached the ‘Excellence’ level, 32 schools at the ‘Good’ level, and 35 schools at the ‘Qualified’ level.

The Sustainable Plastic Waste Management project promotes plastic waste management under the circular economy concept to build knowledge among teachers, educators, students, and the public about the different types of plastic and proper waste separation. This aligns with Indorama Ventures' program to promote knowledge about waste separation and PET recycling, which has been ongoing since 2018. The project will be expanded to remaining 337 schools under the BMA and is expected to educate 40,000 students by 2025.


Indorama Ventures and the Saturday School Foundation Collaborate to Educate Teachers on Recycling

Indorama Ventures partnered with the Saturday School Foundation, a Thai educational organization offering out-of-classroom learning, to initiate the “Kru Chuan Yaek” project. This effort motivated teachers to advocate for recycling and circular economic practices. The project offered workshops where teachers learned about proper waste separation, the different types of waste, and effective recycling practices. Subsequently, they crafted lesson plans inspiring approximately 1,500 students who engaged in waste recycling and supported a circular economy across the nation by the end of 2023.

The "Kru Chuan Yaek" project equipped teachers with the necessary knowledge and resources to create a recycling and waste separation curriculum tailored to their schools, utilizing the educational resources provided by Indorama Ventures. The initial phase of the project hosted a training workshop for 20 teachers selected from the Saturday School Foundation network, all dedicated to encouraging positive change within their educational environments and communities. This workshop increased awareness and understanding of proper waste separation and PET recycling techniques to enhance waste management at schools and in surrounding communities, ultimately minimizing the waste sent to landfills. The training emphasized three core tenets: mastering recycling fundamentals, pursuing zero waste goals, and nurturing a circular economy. Teachers engaged in hands-on training to devise customized lesson plans suitable for their unique classroom settings. Following the workshop, the project team evaluated the workshop's impact and explored possibilities for expansion, including the incorporation of edutainment elements via innovative learning platforms, such as TikTok.


The IVL HO CSR team, together with IVL Foundation and the global EHS team, organized a CSR activity at the Good Shepherd Home Foundation in Bangkok.

The kids were divided into groups and rotated around three learning stations to learn about EHS topics.

  • E - Environment: focusing on waste separation, plastic, and recycling PET.
  • H- Health: focusing on how kids can protect themselves from fire and natural disaster.
  • S - Safety: focusing on first aid for kids, e.g. nosebleeds, food stuck in throat, etc.

Kids were very enjoyed and had the opportunity to learn directly from our global EHS experts. Furthermore, this activity aims to introduce children to the vast possibilities and opportunities within the EHS career field, expanding their horizons and broadening their understanding of the world. The program concluded with a happy moment where the kids enjoyed ice cream and snacks.

Indorama Ventures teamed up with the The officers’s of Sanitation and Public Parks Thronburi district to educated four Bangkok Metropolitan Administration schools on proper waste management. The aim is to promote awareness of sustainable waste disposal practices among students and encourage them to sort waste for recycle. Indorama Ventures content focus on PET recycling process and showcased upcycled PET products to help children understand the benefits of recycling. During the event, students participated in an activity organized by the Sanitation and Public Parks Section which involved making fertilizer out of eggshells. This initiative is part of Indorama Ventures' commitment to promoting sustainable waste, plastic management and environmental awareness.


Indorama Ventures Thailand supports local school to kick off Waste Recycle Bank

Indorama Ventures Thailand and PETform, handed over the Waste Recycle Bank Building to Bancheewittaya School in Lopburi province. This is the second cashless waste recycle bank and the fourth of waste recycle bank which Indorama Ventures supported. Our employees cleaned and fixed waste collection cages and renovated a storage room at school and provided training to student committees on how to manage the waste bank. The project is not only contributing to a cleaner environment, it is also raising student and community awareness on the importance of recycling and the value of waste materials, which can become a source of income as well. Students are able to earn extra money by collecting waste and taking recyclable items to turn into stationery. Furthermore, Indorama Ventures educated 260 students at the event about the types of recycled and properly sorted waste. On the opening day, 58 students applied to be waste bank members. Total waste collected: 91.47 kg (PET: 30 kg, other plastic: 2.2 kg; A4 paper: 20.3 kg; carton: 1.12 kg; glass: 35.42 kg; and others: 1.64 kg).


Indorama Ventures subsidiary, PETform, helps establish a Waste Recycle Bank at Bancheewittaya School in Lopburi province

PETform, a subsidiary of Indorama Ventures plc, collaborated with Bancheewittaya School to build a waste bank by renovating a portion of the school’s building. Company volunteers helped in cleaning and also provided training to student committees on how to operate the waste bank and properly manage plastic waste.

This project supports sustainable waste management practices by raising awareness among students about the importance of recycling and the value of waste materials, which can be a source of income for students. Indorama Ventures also educated 260 students on the different types of recyclable waste during the opening day event, which saw 58 students sign up as waste bank members. On the same day, a total of 91.47 kilograms of waste was collected, furthering the goal of a cleaner environment.


IVL joins a Kids Camp to Promote Plastic Waste Management

IVL took part in a workshop designed for students (Kids Camp) organized by the PPP Rayong group to integrate plastic and waste management in schools. The goal was to help students understand and practice proper plastic waste management, which they could apply in their school and daily life. The program included games, board games, beach clean-up projects to learn about microplastics, and visiting the Kao Yod Small Boat Fishing Learning Center to learn about the way of life of fishermen. Teachers and students engaged in activities to share ideas and create plans to address the problems of plastic and waste in schools. IVL provided recycling education kits to participating schools in this initiative, hoping to enable teachers to apply and disseminate knowledge about PET, the PET recycling process as well as its broader benefits.


Sripatum University Hosts a Successful Recycling Education Session with Indorama Ventures

Sripatum University invited IVL to give a presentation on PET recycling and waste management. Indorama Ventures provided valuable insights on waste management, plastic, sustainable plastic management, and PET recycling. To further assist university students, faculty, staff and the administration in understanding the benefits of recycled PET and its support for the circular economy, we also arranged an exhibition showcasing recycled PET resins, recycled PET yarns, and samples of upcycled PET products. The successful training and exhibition provided by Indorama Ventures at Sripatum University was a crucial first step towards developing a sustainable, circular economy for universities. With over 219 attendees motivated to apply their knowledge on waste separation and PET recycling both in the classroom and in daily life, we look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on the university and the wider community.

Indorama Ventures participated in Rayong’s Less Waste “Train The Trainer” program at the Classic Kameo Hotel. The event, organized by the PPP Rayong team, consisted of a workshop attended by 120 teachers and educators on comprehensive plastic and waste management in schools. Its purpose was to raise awareness, increase knowledge, and improve the abilities of educators to implement the environmental management system in schools in Rayong’s Primary Education Service Area Offices 1 and 2 and schools affiliated with local government organizations. Indorama Ventures set up an exhibition booth, provided information about PET, its recycling processes, and samples of upcycled PET products, demonstrating the benefits of separating and reducing waste and the need to promote a circular economy.


Indorama Ventures conducts an informational session on plastic and sustainability at Community International School

High school students at Community International School attended an informational session led by Mr. Richard Jones, a representative of Indorama Ventures, on understanding plastic, global warming, and sustainable activities. The information provided was meant to help students understand where plastic comes from, how different types of plastic vary, how important plastic is to daily life, how to properly handle plastic, and how recycling PET can protect the environment. Students, parents, and teachers actively participated in the session, asking relevant questions and exchanging helpful ideas. We provided our recycling education materials to the school to help teachers apply and share information about PET, the PET recycling process, as well as its wider advantages.


Indorama Ventures collaborates with Sansiri on Waste and Plastic Management

Indorama Ventures was invited by Sansiri, Thailand’s leading developer of quality houses, townhomes, and condominiums to share knowledge and provide training sessions on waste and plastic management, and PET recycling to representatives of their property, hotel, community mall and factory business units. The training was held at the company’s Siri Campus with an objective of promoting waste sorting behavior at the source and proper plastic separation among their employees and housekeeping staff, in line with their mission to “Apply a sustainability philosophy in our products, services, and work processes.” We exchanged ideas on how to raise awareness among employees and stakeholders to reduce waste and improve recycling with the hope of helping them develop in-house activities to encourage sustainability within their organization.

In celebration of National Children’s Day in Thailand, IVL’s Corporate CSR team took part in the “Sanook Kids” event hosted by Riverside Plaza Bangkok. Hundreds of children and parents joined in a variety of fun activities and craft stations. Indorama Ventures 's booth provided learning activities that taught children about recycling and how to properly sort waste. More than 260 children enjoyed sorting recyclable, and non-recyclable items into the correct bins, and were excited to learn about PET and see products made from recycled PET. Children’s Day is an excellent opportunity to introduce recycling to kids and inspire them to help protect the environment.


Going Green at Indorama Ventures

Together with Trash Lucky, a startup that collects recycled waste and arranges raffles to encourage people to recycle, we organized the ‘IVL Giving Green’ event at Indorama Ventures’ head office in Bangkok. This activity promoted PET recycling and waste separation among consumers who could exchange their post-consumer PET bottles for free gifts, including a range of grocery items and a chance to win a lucky draw with Trash Lucky. From this activity we collected over 2,250 PET bottles within just three hours. We want to inspire and encourage everyone to recycle more and move one step closer to creating a better world together.
