Bangkok – 18 September 2025 – Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, a global sustainable chemical company, announces the successful completion of the “Sustainable Plastic Waste Management Project – Year 3.” The project, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Education Department, transformed classrooms into platforms for environmental learning by engaging teachers, students, and communities to foster a culture of waste seperation and PET plastic recycling at the source. Between 2023–2025, the program reached and engaged more than 31,200 participants.

Launched in 2023, the Sustainable Plastic Waste Management Project was initiated by Indorama Ventures and the BMA to address the challenge of recyclable PET plastics being discarded with general waste. Its objectives are to instill awareness of waste separation at the source, develop teaching materials and school activities on waste management, promote PET recycling back into production processes, and build a network of model teachers and students. The program is structured around four core activities:

• Activity 1: Education Roadshows – Delivered to 100 BMA schools, roadshows provided training on waste sorting and PET recycling to 9,695 teachers and students. The program also distributed 480 copies of the Teaching Manual on Proper Waste Sorting, developed in collaboration with expert educators and validated by specialists, to strengthen waste management education. Nine manuals were produced for lower primary, upper primary, and lower secondary levels, integrating circular economy principles into classroom teaching.
• Activity 2: PET Train the Trainer – Now in its second year, this program trained 40 teachers from 20 schools to enhance their skills, knowledge, and access to effective teaching tools for school waste management. Nine model teachers from Year 1 also shared their experiences to inspire and mentor new participants.
• Activity 3: Model School and Teacher Awards – A total of 164 schools were recognized for excellence in sustainable plastic waste management: 47 received the Excellent award, 51 the Good award, and 66 the Qualified award. In addition, 14 model teachers from Year 2 from seven schools were honored, reflecting the project’s success in inspiring sustainable practices within education.
• Activity 4: PET Collection for Recycling – In collaboration with WasteBuy Delivery CO.LTD., a leading provider of door-to-door waste collection services through a comprehensive digital waste management platform, driving the BCG Economy and ESG models into tangible action. The project collected over 3.5 tons of PET bottles from participating schools in 2025—equivalent to a fully loaded six-wheel truck—reducing landfill use by more than 11 cubic meters. All bottles were sent to Indorama Ventures’ recycling facility in Nakhon Pathom province for reprocessing into recycled PET bottles, polyester fibers, and other products, in line with circular economy principles.

Now in its third year, this program continues to deliver strong results—supporting circularity while empowering young people to develop innovative solutions that extend the lifecycle of PET. It reflects the BMA’s commitment to building a more sustainable, circular economy for Bangkok.”
